MOUNTAINTOPS NEW ALBUM
“IN THE VALLEY” TO BE RELEASED
On October 9th, Mountaintops will release their debut album In the Valley. Husband and wife songwriting team Nick and Melissa Morrow wrote the album in the midst of personal tragedy: four miscarriages in two years.
A collection of honest questions and hopeful prayers, the album stands as an altar to God’s goodness even in the midst of the worst circumstances. Rather than a journey from “doubt to certainty,” the album explores a journey from doubt to worship. The album begins with questions from the chaos of pain and concludes with the surrender of worship.
Mountaintops was formed out of a desire to find the synthesis of “accessibility” and “creativity” in worship music. In 2016 the band teamed up with producers Jon Class (Josh Garrels, Strahan, The WLDLFE) and Jason Barrows (Josh Garrels, Loud Harp, Jason Upton) to create a set of outside-the-box worship tunes. The band’s early singles were featured by Relevant, Worship Leader magazine, and Spotify.
Mountaintops’ first full-length album In the Valley continues to push the creative boundaries of worship music. The Morrows teamed up with a long list of co-writers and collaborators who contributed to the diversity of the album. Together the songs showcase the band’s influences atypical to worship: from the earnest indie-rock of Bon Iver to the psychedelic pop of the Beatles, from the ambient rock of Sigur Ros to Nebraska-era Springsteen, from the indie folk of Sufjan Stevens to the world-music pop of Peter Gabriel. Mixed by Paul Arend (Bethel Music, Taylor Armstrong) and mastered by Alex Dobbert (TobyMac, Tauren Wells), In the Valley sounds like modern music through a different pair of aesthetic lenses.
While the album served as a cathartic spiritual journey for the Morrows, the album release accompanies a beautiful ending: in the fall of 2019 the family will welcome a very healthy baby boy into the world! The couple hopes “In the Valley” will serve as soundtrack for millions of encounters with Jesus. They release it to the world with the belief that sacred songs can carry healing for those struggling with the mysteries of life.
